Side By Side
Visual Storytelling
2026
Overview
This piece was part of my Short Story module in my final year.
The brief was open and allowed us to tell in a story in whatever form of media you like, I chose to combine my sketch and Illustrator skills to create a ‘digital photo album’ which shows the life of two brothers growing up together.
This piece meant a lot to me, as the two characters are inspired by my relationship with my twin brother. I wanted to showcase a real relationship between true brothers, I wanted to show some highs, show some lows and other significant moments in between.

Construction of Scenes
When creating these scenes, I followed a consistent process in each frame.
This went as followed -
Firstly, I sketched out the scenes on paper.
I then used the image trace tool on Adobe Illustrator to get my drawings onto a useable software.
Finally, I used Illustrator to draw and colour in the characters.
This workflow worked great for me, I then repeated this over 10 so I had different options to choose from when it came to the construction of my timeline.
